Phoenix | The ‘Bullet’

World’s FKT: Not Set | 1st scheduled attempt: October 24, 2026

The Reputation

Fast. Quite Flat. Very Deceptive.

While it lacks the urban chaos of Los Angeles, the climbing of San Diego or the distance of Reno, The Bullet offers a stark, evolving beauty. This is the only route that forces a three-state crossing. It is a 346-mile desert-to-desert sprint that demands continuous power output and a high-velocity focus.

Tactical Briefing

The Entry-Level Paradox

As the shortest route on the circuit, it looks deceptively accessible. However, the flat terrain is a trap that demands a relentless, high-wattage effort with zero gravity breaks.

The Shoulder Gap

Once you clear the 20-mile city perimeter, the desert roads often narrow significantly. Managing your proximity to passing traffic becomes a critical safety variable.

The Early Velocity

Expect a potentially blazing average speed across the first two-thirds of the course. Capitalize on the forgiving, flat gradient, but be careful not to burn your matches too early.

Logistics Advantage

Unlike the more remote desert circuits, this route offers unmatched rest stop options. You will benefit from more fueling flexibility and frequent locations to refresh.

The Final Bite

The desert stops being your friend and the flat profile betrays you at mile 250. Most of the climbing occurs over the final third, forcing you to ascend on tired legs.

State Border Complexity

You will cross two state lines and pass through the California Agricultural Inspection station. If you get flagged to stop, it could add minutes to your clock.

Along the Route

The Vegas In 24 Phoenix route is scenically gorgeous in many ways, but it does not feature many notable landmarks. While it starts and ends in the desert, the route features plenty of change in scenery, including the only route to take place in 3 states and feature a Colorado River crossing.

Los Angeles | The ‘Original’

World’s FKT: 20:41:24 | April 23, 2016    Andy Funk

The Reputation

The Legend. The High-Contrast Everything Bagel.

This route is a study in cinematic contrast. You begin in the neon-lit heart of one of the world’s most iconic urban landscapes, navigating the high-energy pulse of the Los Angeles sprawl.

As the city lights fade, you transition into the absolute, haunting silence of the Mojave. It is a profound shift from the pinnacle of human civilization to the rawest form of nature.

Tactical Briefing

The Urban Siege

The first 80 miles are a brutal war of attrition through 357 traffic lights. Extreme patience is a tactical necessity in the city to avoid burning critical nervous energy early.

The Everest Scale

Amassing nearly 15K ft of elevation gain is structurally equivalent to half of Mount Everest. If you overcook the initial ascents, the fatigue will catch up with you.

The Rail Variable

Navigating 11 rail crossings puts your clock completely at the mercy of the tracks. A single passing freight train can instantly derail your sub-24 pace by minutes.

Navigation Load

Managing 41 waypoints introduces a heavy cognitive load to an already challenging ride. Miscalculating a single turn can jeopardize your entire attempt.

High-Speed Descent

The descent into the Palm Springs basin is notoriously windy. Bike speeds here can exceed 60 mph. Razor-sharp handling skills are absolutely non-negotiable.

The Searchlight Grind

The unrelenting, false-flat climb toward Searchlight acts as the ultimate psychological spirit-breaker. This section requires an extremely disciplined fueling strategy.

Along the Route

Despite the nonstop lights and noise of the first 80 miles, this route is absolutely spectacular and full of changing scenery. Could there be any bigger contrast than going from 5 hours of one of the biggest urban environments to the absolute nothingness of the desert? This route delivers it.

San Diego | The ‘Skyway’

World’s FKT: Not Set | 1st scheduled attempt: 2027

The Reputation

The Vertical Nightmare.

The ‘Skyway’ is the most cinematic route on the entire circuit, offering everything from urban environments, ocean vistas, seaside cliffs, vineyards and forests to high-mountain passes and desert flats.

With 400 miles to conquer, it is absolutely visually stunning and just as much physically punishing.

Tactical Briefing

The Vertical Wall

With nearly 20,000 ft of elevation gain, this is the undisputed climbing heavyweight of the circuit. The uphills will break anyone who underestimates this route.

Pacing or Failure

As the 2nd longest route, strict power-zone management is critical for survival. You cannot brute-force the climbs, yet you cannot afford to waste a single minute.

The Technical Drop

At mile 122, you will navigate a technical descent into the low desert. Executing this tricky section during a nighttime attempt requires extreme caution and focus.

Cognitive Endurance

49 tactical turns require far more active route tracking than any other circuit. Severe mental fatigue can cause navigational errors that can eat up your cutoff margin.

The Heritage Path

Sections of this highly cinematic course share the exact same competitive tarmac as the legendary Race Across America and Ironman 70.3 Oceanside.

The Merge

At the Palm Springs basin, the Skyway officially merges with the Los Angeles route. You will inherit all the punishing desert obstacles of the ‘Original’ route.

Along the Route

No matter where you look, both natural and man-made landmarks on the San Diego route are plentiful, providing for a constant change of scenery from the second you start pedaling, providing a diverse and immensely enjoyable riding experience.

Reno | The ‘Titan’

World’s FKT: Not Set | 1st scheduled attempt: 2027

The Reputation

The Psychological Abyss.

The ‘Titan’ is the longest mission, staying entirely within the Nevada border. It is a vast, high-altitude 448-mile odyssey through the “Big Empty.” Scenic beauty is vast, while scenic variety is low. The psychological tax and risk of zoning out are high.

Tactical Briefing

The Velocity Threshold

To beat the cut-off clock, you must maintain a punishing minimum average speed of 18.7 mph. This is a relentless hammer-down route that leaves no room for mistakes.

The Thin Air

Over 300 miles of this grueling desert odyssey take place above 4,000 feet. The high altitude will silently sap your muscle recovery and skew your target heart zones.

The Net Negative Trap

Do not let the technically descending profile fool you; downhill gradients rarely exceed 2%. There are no free rides out here, forcing you to pedal every single mile.

The 0-Civilization Factor

This is the most isolated and barren path on the entire ultra-cycling circuit. Your logistics and roadside fueling strategy are strictly all-or-nothing, leaving zero margin for error.

The Northern Strategy

Approaching the neon finish line from the north introduces completely unique environmental dynamics. If timed correctly, this can offer favorable wind patterns.

The Hypnosis Risk

The lack of unique landmarks on the route and a highly monotonous horizon present a massive psychological hazard that has the potential to make you zone out.

Along the Route

More landmarks than you might expect from an almost deserted route through the desert. Despite the vast emptiness between Reno and Las Vegas, many beautiful areas do emerge as time passes along the ride. It is the only route to remain entirely within the State of Nevada.
